The Student Mentoring Programme
Mentoring fosters connections between current AHSS students and seasoned Alumni.

Our aim is to furnish students with a supportive framework to contemplate the array of career possibilities available to them. We also aim to inspire them to recognise their existing skills while identifying areas, with their mentor, where they can further develop their capabilities.

Mentoring offers students a valuable chance to gain authentic insights into the array of career paths available to them. As an industry professional, it provides you with a rewarding opportunity to guide someone on their journey to realizing their full potential in their future career.

The programme's essence lies in fostering connections between current AHSS students and seasoned Alumni. We aim to provide students with a structured approach to contemplate their career options and discern the skills they must cultivate.

Mentoring entails generously sharing your expertise, knowledge, and experience to assist your mentee in advancing, exploring fresh opportunities, and attaining a clearer vision of their career path following graduation.

STUDENTS
Student Information

Mentoring presents an excellent opportunity for you to cultivate your personal skills and expand your external networks. Through this programme, you will be paired with an alumni mentor from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. They will not only share their career journey but also assist you in discovering the array of opportunities at your disposal.

Throughout the year you'll come to one training session, engage in a minimum of five meetings with your mentor and have the opportunity to attend additional skill development sessions tailored to you.

Mentoring aims to enrich students' understanding of the professional world, their potential, and various work environments. By doing so, students gain the confidence to excel in the job market and personal endeavors alike.

As one student put it, "It will open your eyes to so many possibilities that you wouldn't have thought of".

Student Mentoring Timeline

 

Mentor Timeline:

    • 4 September - Applications Open
    • 2 October - Applications Close
    • 17 October - Online induction Session for new Mentors
    • 15 November - Receive 'It's a Match' email
      Mentee's to contact mentor's to arrange individual sessions
    • 5 December - Winter Breakfast (Event)
    • 25 April 2024 - End of Year Celebration (Event)

 

Mentee Timeline:

    • 11 September - Applications Open
    • 16 October - Applications Close
    • Mandatory attendance at one of the following induction sessions:
      24 October, 25 October or 1 November
    • 15 November - Receive 'It's a Match' email, make contact with Mentor to begin meetings
    • 5 December - Winter Breakfast (Event)
    • 25 April 2024 - End of Year Celebration (Event)
    • You will also be invited to attend skills development events throughout the year
